How to Market Your Business During COVID-19
What a month it has been. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced ‘Ground Hog Day’ as many times in my life as I have over the past four weeks. With many businesses shut down and many doors are forced closed, there is a real change in the air for what is to come. I do not mean anything to do with the virus; I’m talking about shopping habits and how some businesses will be able to survive the changes. The number of online tools and systems that we all need to get used to is increasing every day. The crazy part of it all, many businesses are thriving and growing all in the same time.
We all have choices to make on how we will deal with these times. It doesn’t matter if you run your own business, are an employee that is currently temporarily laid off or if you are just graduating and waiting to enter the workforce. You have a decision to make. This decision will either make your future go one way or another. This decision will either create a fantastic future for you and your family, or you can simply move closer towards mediocrity and making your future smaller. The choice is yours, but you have to make it.
The choice I’m talking about is simple. Will you decide to grow, lean into the uncomfortable moments of your life right now and focus on helping and adding value to your customers, friends and family OR you can choose binge Netflix and ‘wait it out.’
I don’t know about you, but during times like these, which I have never lived through before, I’m certain that leaning into my future and helping those around me is going to be the smarter choice.
You have a business that helps others and is good for them, right? Your product or service is one that solves problems and brings joy to those you get to serve. And you are fearful of your future. I get it. I understand. I, too, am afraid for the future, but I do know one thing, that this is going to be a fantastic ride with incredible learnings and growth. The relationships I’m going to build, and the people I’m going to meet are going to be amazing. The clients we are going to have the privilege to help are going to be appreciative. Do I know exactly what the future looks like? No… But I challenge you to ask yourself if you knew the future back in February 2020 or even September of 2015. None of us do, and that is what makes us Entrepreanuers incredibly ready for moments like these.
I came across some interesting statistics from AcuityAds and a presentation their CEO did, and I think these will spark some thoughts for your own business as well as ideas for how you can pivot, shift and shuffle during these times.
Walk-in Traffic is Gone
One thing is for sure. The walk-in traffic that you have seen in the past is gone. Not only will it be gone during times of isolation, but it will also be gone when we are back. It will not be gone forever, but it will take a long time to change habits back to what they used to be. Hear me out. If creating a new habit takes 30-60 days to do, this timeframe is a range based on many different sources, do you think the habit of walk-in shopping vs online shopping will change. Absolutely! Check this out.
The number of people that are ok to change their habits, and not enter stores due COVID-19 is high. This was also back in late February 2020 in the US when most of their country was undecided of how real COVID-19 was. The average percentage of people at that time who would not enter into a store jumped to 75.04%. That stat could stay that high for months, even after we get the ok to head back out into public.
Buying Behavior Shifting to Digital
With the change in customers not entering stores, the shift to digital is simply just going to happen. It’s inevitable. The jump in Canada is approximately a 100%+ increase. If you do not have your store, goods, services and especially PRODUCTS available to be online and ready to ship to your customers, you are missing out on a HUGE opportunity to keep your doors open.
We do have a promo on right now to get your e-commerce store set up in only seven days for 50% off the regular cost. Inquire at email@example.com for more info.
Some Businesses are Thriving
To the point of being online, there are many businesses that are THRIVING during this time. I have a close friend and client of Cabin Fever Marketing, who is crushing it in his industry. He was ready to slow down, but people were watching his unique business, and because of his positioning in his market, they started to call him for a secure investment option. Amazing!
We are also working on a project for a pet treat company and getting their e-commerce store set up, and they, too, are seeing sales happening because of their shift to online sales.
You, too, can make that shift and make it happen for you and your family.
We offer some amazing options for digital marketing that include SEO, Content Management, Social Media Campaigns and much more. Take control of your future during these times and make the changes you have needed to make for a while!
