How to 3x Your Traffic in 3 Months | Case Study

Traffic is the lifeblood of any website. If no one sees your site and content, you may not be able to do it for much longer. We worked with one of our clients during the previous four months to see if we could increase their traffic. They just went through a significant website change, they ripped everything apart and had just completed the initial phase of putting it back together right when COVID19 started to the day!

They were nervous and wondered if all the work and investment would pay off, especially walking into a time, unlike anything any of us has ever seen or knew what to expect.

Like many business owners, they had a choice. To either double down or walk away. They choose correctly and are feeling the positive effects of it today.

Let’s dive in and see what we did.

I want to give some history and background to get the full picture. This site was seeing nearly 40,000 users coming to it on the monthly last spring. There were changes forced upon their website from the provider they were working with, which hindered our ability to keep growing, so they decided to make a significant change. Back then, they were seeing about 1,400 users coming to the site a day quite regularly.

Fast forward to spring 2020, and the change and foundation work was almost complete. Then COVID hit! As you can see from the chart below, they were as low as 299 users coming a day to the site. Any rebuild like this can slow the traffic for many reasons, but the main one is Google is confused. Google didn’t know what to present to the user when searching because it has all changed, so nothing is shown at all. We knew this was going to happen with this change, and thus, we had a plan.

We knew that we would need to utilize multiple options at our disposal to get the traffic going again. What we did is we created some backend systems for Google to see the pages and the content. This was key. Because if we started pushing social and paid traffic to specific pages that were not set up right ahead of time, the efforts would be wasted.

So we utilized the following techniques:

  1. Retargeting Ads to past/current traffic
  2. Email Content Marketing to existing Database
  3. Social Sharing of Content from the site

By utilizing these three elements, we were able to increase traffic 3x in 3 months. See the screenshot below that is three months after the screenshot above.


Now, this result will not be the same for every site because each site has its own history, social pages, and past leads to lean on.

It comes down to knowing what tools to use at your disposal to move forward. All I know is that these clients are happy, and June has been a record month for their real estate brokerage in terms of deals written in a down market as well as leads signing up on their site.
